SHS Tennis Team wins Regionals
tennis1.jpg
On March 5 and 6, the Sweetwater Mustang tennis team participated in the 3A Regional Team Tennis Tournament in Odessa, TX. The team played hard and well and ended the tournament as Regional Champions. For those who are unfamiliar with the team format, there are 19 total matches played in this set-up so the first team to win 10 matches advances to the next round. Each team has 3 boys’ doubles teams, 3 girls’ doubles teams, and 1 mixed doubles team. After all the doubles matches are done, then you play 6 girls singles matches and 6 boys singles matches with every match counting as 1 point for their respective team. Play began Friday afternoon as the Mustangs took on Pecos in the quarter-finals. Sweetwater defeated Pecos 19-0 to advance to the semi-finals against the Levelland Lobos Saturday morning. In the semi-finals, the Mustangs got up 4-3 after doubles competition and Brice Carrion clenched the victory for the Mustangs with a win in a third set tiebreaker at #4 boys’ singles. In the regional finals, (played Saturday @ 1:30p.m.) the Mustangs took on the Snyder Tigers. After doubles competition, the Mustangs went up 5-2 with the help of Hanna Hunter and Jessica Bond who were down 3-7 at the #1 girls doubles spot and came back to clinch a 9-8 victory. This was one of the best comebacks I have ever witnessed and provided the mustangs with a lot of momentum going into the singles matches. In singles competition, Allie Myers provided the dagger with a 11-9 third set victory at #2 girls singles to provide the Mustangs with a 10-5 victory over Snyder and their 2nd Straight Regional Championship. With this effort, the Sweetwater Mustang Tennis Team will attend the TTCA State Tennis Tournament in San Marcos starting March 12th @ 8:30 a.m. Only 16 teams get the opportunity to compete at the State Tournament and as the Regional Champions Sweetwater will get to play a Regional Runner-up 1st Round. The mustangs will play two matches Friday, March 12th and two matches Saturday, March 13th.

logo_census.png
The U. S. Census will be taken in April 2010. SISD is partnering with Nolan County to keep our citizens informed. We want everyone to be aware of the importance of an accurate, timely count. Please read on for more details. The Census form will be much simpler than those in past years. There will only be ten questions, taking approximately ten minutes to complete. We encourage everyone to take a few minutes to fill out the form and return it by mail, immediately upon receiving it. The data from the Census will be used to determine congressional boundaries, allocate grants and define population trends, along with other uses. For more information, please use the following link to the 2010 Census website. 2010 Census Website
