SIS Families, It is with a heavy heart and deepest sorrow that we inform you of the passing of our beloved music teacher, Melody Squires. She was an employee of Sweetwater ISD for over 45 years and the loss of such a long-time educator will be felt by many in our community, especially her current students and colleagues. Mrs. Squires was a dedicated educator who touched the lives of countless students throughout her tenure at SIS. Her passion for music and unwavering commitment to bringing joy to her students through music inspired a generation of young musicians. Beyond her teaching, Mrs. Squires was known for her kindness, patience, and positive attitude. She created a nurturing and supportive environment in the music classroom, fostering a love for music and encouraging every student to reach their full potential. We understand that this news comes as a shock, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Squires’ family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. We also recognize that the death of an adult in your child’s life, especially one he or she may see every day, will evoke certain reactions. You may find that your child expresses concern about your health and safety, or even demonstrates behavioral signs of grief such as crying, fatigue, depression and anxiety. It is important to listen to your child, and encourage them to share their feelings if they are having difficulty coping with this loss. Counselors have been made available throughout the day for those who are struggling with grief or anxiety. If you have any questions or need support, please do not hesitate to contact my office. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made; however, we will keep you informed once we receive further details. Thank you for your understanding and empathy as we grieve the loss of an exceptional music educator and a valued member of our school family. Sincerely, Kathy Smartt SIS Interim Principal
