The Sweetwater ISD School Board met Tuesday evening to review a DRAFT 2025-2026 academic calendar proposed by members of the District Education Improvement Committee (DEIC). The Board is expected to vote on the calendar at their February 24 meeting.
Superintendent Dr. Deidre Parish said the DEIC is comprised of employees, parents and community leaders. They reviewed and discussed calendar options, bringing a recommendation to the Board at the January 14 meeting. The district is required to ensure 75,600 instructional minutes. The proposed calendar includes 77,887.50 to cover potential bad weather closures, and other time outside of the classroom, such as field trips, pep rallies, and assemblies.
Some of the proposed calendar key dates include:
First day of school: Wednesday, August 13
Last day of school/early release: Thursday, May 21
Thanksgiving break: Nov. 24-28
Winter break: Dec. 19-Jan. 2 (Students return Jan. 6)
Spring break: March 16-20
School holiday/district closed: Sept. 1, Oct. 13, Jan. 9, Jan. 19, Feb. 16, April 3, May 25
New employee orientation: July 31 & Aug. 1
Staff development days/student holidays: Aug. 4-12, Sept. 22, Nov. 3, Jan. 5, Feb. 17, April 6 and May 22.
Individuals with feedback on the proposed calendar are asked to reach out to their campus administrator by Feb. 21 so the feedback can be shared with Trustees at their February Board meeting.
